Every request to a website leaves a technical trace, and ours is no exception: the address it came from, the page asked for, the moment it happened, and the browser and device type. Our infrastructure provider records it so the page can be delivered and so a fault or an attack can be recognised. It is not used to build a profile of you and not used to identify you.

A small number, all of them there to make the site work rather than to watch you:

• The language you are reading in, so a later visit opens in the same one.
• Your choice of a light or a dark page.
• Your answer to the cookie question, so it is asked once instead of on every page.

There is no analytics, advertising or tracking cookie, and nothing on these pages is embedded from a third party.

Your address and whatever you tell us arrive in a mailbox and stay there while the matter is open, and afterwards for as long as the law asks a company to keep its correspondence.

The site is hosted and its content stored by infrastructure providers who act on our instructions under a data processing agreement, and who may not use anything for their own purposes. Where such a provider operates outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area, the transfer rests on the standard contractual clauses.

Each purpose sets its own limit. Technical records are kept while they are useful for running and securing the site, correspondence for as long as the matter and the statutory retention periods require, and a cookie for the period your browser shows against it. What is no longer needed is deleted.

You can ask what is held about you, have it corrected or deleted, ask that a particular use be restricted or stopped, and receive what you gave us in a portable form. Write to the mailbox below and you get an answer. You can also take a complaint to a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, and in the European Economic Area the authority for the place you live.

This page is revised when what we do changes, and the date below says when that last happened.
